Directions to Matoya Fishing Lodge

Matoya Fishing Lodge is located 600km west of Lusaka, Zambia and is set amidst pristine wilderness in the grassy, wetland enclaves of the Barotse Floodplains.

The lodge is a 15-minute boat ride from the local town of Lukulu, which hosts a gravel air-strip.

Location

Three ways of accessing the Barotse Floodplains:

SELF-DRIVE:

  • From Lusaka: Head west towards Mumbwa and through Kafue National Park onto Kaomo. This is the recommended fuel stop. 12km after leaving Kaomo, turn right on the gravel road. This 195km road should take about 4 hours to drive. Upon arrival in Lukulu, turn left at the Santa Maria mission and follow the track down to the harbour to meet the team who will arrange safe parking.

 

  • From Livingstone/Katima Mulilo: From Livingstone, head west to Sesheke and join the M10 up to Senanga. If you are entering from Katima, you will join the road here. Head north to Senanga and onto Mongu where you should refuel. Thereafter, head east towards Kaoma turning left at the gravel road to Lukulu 12km before the Puma fuel station in Kaomo. From this pont on, follow Self Drive directions

CHARTER/SELF-FLY:

For easy access to our Zambezi River destination, fly in via private charter from Lanseria, Livingstone or Lusaka to the Lukulu air-strip.
